Mindfulness & Relaxation Techniques

Anxiety about labor and/or birth can show up in many ways person to person and even day to day. Racing thoughts, constant worry about impending contractions, difficulty relaxing or sleeping, or feeling overwhelmed by what seems like a ticking biological clock. Even with a pregnancy glow (sponsored by hormonal changes and increased body temp) on the outside, your mind may feel like it never fully slows down or that you are pressured and running out of time.

I’m here to tell you that just because these feelings are common doesn’t mean you’re stuck with them. In these classes, we work together to identify any specific stressors (negative past experiences, fear of perineal tearing or intense pain) and practice tools to help you feel calmer, more grounded, and more in control in real time.

This is less of a lecture style class and more of an open dialogue where you can pause, breathe, and learn how to embrace labor with greater clarity and confidence.

Common Comfort Measures we may explore:

  • Patterned breathing

  • Grounding techniques

  • Hot, Cold, and Water therapies

  • Visual imagery

  • Appealing to your auditory senses

  • Counterpressure & more!

Setting the Foundation for your Family

Reduce the Likelihood of Postpartum Depression

New seasons of life often bring uncertainty, self-doubt, or questions about identity and direction. Deciding to begin or expand on your family is no exception to this discomfort and adjustment. You may even find yourself wondering who you are now or what decisions to make next.

Throughout this era of change it’s crucial to know how and when to locate extra support. Together, we create space to clarify values, and navigate transitions with intention rather than overwhelm. The addition of childbirth education tools to your belt can also directly impact your postpartum experience. Not only through fourth trimester expectations regarding healing, newborn care, and postpartum professionals - but having an empowered birth experience reduces the chances of developing Postpartum Depression as well.

Whether you are starting a new journey entirely or redefining your path to parenthood from a previous experience, I can help you move forward feeling more grounded and aligned with the parent you want to be.

Having a Positive Birthing Experience can:

  • Reduce fear of subsequent birth

  • Promote faster, earlier bonding between parent and baby

  • Support smoother physical recovery

  • Facilitate a more seamless transition into your new role

  • Foster confidence and empowerment

Whether this is your first or fifth pregnancy, together we create a plan of action for all outcomes that feels supportive, practical, and meaningful for you.

Unmedicated Birth

Learn tools to provide relief from the pain and pressure experienced during contractions without the use of medication. Whether you’re planning a water birth, or just want to go a more holistic route — we will cover the bases.

Epidural or Medication Use

Did you know an epidural isn’t your only option for relief from discomfort? There are a few choices to consider, even varying by location and hospital availability. In addition to this, time is of the essence when getting an epidural placed in labor. We’ll talk all about what can keep you as comfortable as possible until then.

Elective or Unplanned Cesarean

Unplanned doesn’t always mean emergency - and while it is sometimes not the goal Cesareans do play a valuable role in maintaining the safety of both parent and baby. We discuss the unexpected, and the factors you can still control in an unplanned or elective Cesarean delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime. If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and send me a message to get started!

  • Typically between weeks 32-36 would be the sweet spot! Leaning towards the earlier weeks gives you more wiggle room in the event of an induction or impatient baby - but you still want it to be close enough to delivery to have the information at the front of your mind.

  • By all means! There is no right or wrong answer so long as the control remains in your hands and you get your questions answered. As a doula I do tell my patients to be aware that in hospital or birthing center classes they may suggest things that align with their individual policies - not necessarily the needs of you and your family (like eating in labor).

  • You sure can! Childbirth Education classes make for an extremely thoughtful baby shower gift. Why give a temporary outfit or millionth box of diapers when you can give the gift of support and comfort during such a pivotal time.

  • I do not bill insurance directly. Many clients choose to pay privately at the time of service and submit a detailed invoice to their insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on the individual plan, HSA or FSA funds may be able to be used to cover part or all of the workshop fee.

  • In person has a definite advantage in terms of the hands on segments and practical application of comfort techniques. That being said - virtual options can be offered if needed. I am flexible to be as accessible as possible so please reach out with specific questions!
